-Statement-

Using analogies of textiles and containers my work explores how we construct the identities of ourselves and others as though they are concrete and can be contained.  Working with the language of quilting these paintings seek to find ways to remain open and receptive to individuals and change while retaining respect for tradition and community.  I am drawn to the language of quilts because they are layered like paintings, and ordered in a way that the differences in fabrics and colors work together to make the whole more compelling.  I find beauty and possibility when things  fall outside of, or challenge expectations.
